RELIGIOUS OPPORTUNITIES IN GREENE COUNTY

Greene County life has a strong religious dimension. With over 100 churches in the county, there are church groups ranging from small, nondenominational gatherings in converted homes to larger churches representing such familiar denominations as Baptist, Church of God, Assemblies of God, Church of Christ, United Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, Disciples of Christ, and Lutheran. There are Independent Christian churches, Presbyterians, United Methodists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Latter Day Saints (Mormon), Apostolic, and a variety of others as well.

Most Greene County churches have Sunday evening and weeknight programs, as well as the traditional Sunday morning Christian Education and Worship services. Many congregations offer their members opportunities to serve the community in a variety of ways, supporting the Family Life Center, the Sonshine Shop, food pantries and other assistance and outreach efforts. Several churches feature pre-school and day care programs, and a couple have recognized Christian private schools for teaching students in grades K-12.

The churches of Greene County also have a presence in the community through cooperative programs and efforts, including musical programs and community worship services at various times in the year. Whether you want to deepen your faith through worship, study, service, or just gathering with other good people of faith, there is a place for you in the churches of Greene County. - Rev. Doug Witt, Linton First United Methodist Church
