Dining Out and Shopping

Greene County truly is the center of it all in southern Indiana; here you can shop and dine at a leisurely pace while enjoying the natural beauty of the area. No matter which part of the county you live in or visit, you’ll find something sure to please both your palate and your purse.

In between the rolling hills of Eastern Greene County and the scenic vistas of Western Greene County are some of the finest and friendliest eateries in Southern Indiana.

When you visit Greene County, you’ll be welcomed to sample such delicious treats as the Amish buffet at Stoll’s Country Inn in Linton, also the home of the county’s best and largest cinnamon rolls! Also in Linton, stop on Main Street to enjoy the jewel box charm of Francisco de Borja Coffee where the frappes are a perfect tonic on hot days, and the extensive collection of coffees and teas warm you up on a cold one.

A Friday night favorite is Goosepond Pizza where the “Indiana Style Stromboli” reigns supreme. In Bloomfield at the Lighthouse Lunchbox the menu changes daily so there’s always a new and delicious plate lunch to sample; it’s a favorite of the courthouse employees across the street who can be found ducking in to pick up carry out orders throughout the lunch hour. The Lighthouse is also famous for their decadent desserts including coconut pie and chocolate-caramel brownies. Also on the square in Bloomfield is The Pepperoni Grill; open six days a week, owner Mark Turner turns out pizzas, pastas, and nightly specials featuring chicken or fish.

South of Bloomfield in the town of Newberry, the tiny Newberry Café is a great place to get a hearty breakfast, or at lunch time, home made favorites like beef stew and fried catfish. The Front Porch Restaurant in Worthington has been serving their guests delicious homestyle food for over 11 years. Their homemade pies are a delightful end to a Prime Rib dinner special they offer on Friday and Sautrday nights. In Jasonville, locals gather at La Plaza for Mexican favorites while J’Lin Catering and Town & Country Catering create wonderful dishes for both your catered events and local festivals.

In Lyons you’ll find some of the best Mexican food north of the border at Cinco de Mayo. And you can’t leave Greene County without a stop at Rosie’s Diner in Hendricksville where the sign reads “You gotta be TOUGH to eat here!” Rosie’s is not only a favorite stop of the Governor; she’s famous for her pies.

For casual dining, Greene County truly is the home of Hoosier Hospitality.
