GREENE COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITALGreene County General Hospital, located on Highway 54 just outside of the Linton city limits, is a regional hospital serving Greene and surrounding counties. A member of the Indiana Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association, and licensed by the Indiana State Board of Health, GCGH is also accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and certified by the American Association of Blood Banks. The hospital maintains state of the art equipment and well-trained personnel who have a strong investment in continuing education. It has received accolades from external surveyors and regulators for its excellence in quality control and safety, including medication monitoring and infection control. GCGH uses advanced computerized information systems to provide efficient, effective and accessible health care services to county residents. Besides being a facility for primary and secondary care services, sub-specialty clinics include Oncology, Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Cardiology. In addition, GCGH provides in-patient and out-patient surgery services as well as ambulatory infusion therapy services and a Home Health Care Agency. GCGH has three newly remodeled labor, delivery and recovery beds in obstetrics. The Emergency Room is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and beds are available for intensive, coronary care and trauma care services. Ground ambulance service is provided by Greene County Ambulance and CARE Ambulance.Service. Air Transport is provided by Lifeline from Indianapolis and Air Evac for air evacuation services. GCGH transfers approximately 5 to 10 cases per month to Indianapolis, Bloomington, Terre Haute and Evansville. Transport time is approximately 30-40 minutes after a patient is stabilized in the emergency room. The four main diagnoses which prompt transfer include cardiac trauma, pediatric trauma, head injuries and burn cases. GCGH is prepared to treat and/or transfer injuries sustained from a variety of industrial accidents, should the need arise.GREENE COUNTY HEALTH CLINIC12 West Main St. Bloomfield (812)384-0044 (812)384-0040 (Fax) The Greene County Health Clinic, located in downtown Bloomfield, opened January 2005. Dr. Kent Beams and his Physician’s Assistant (PA) Roger Lehman, together with a staff of five nurses provide primary care for patients with a variety of medical needs when emergency room care is not indicated, when they cannot get in to see their regular physician, or in the absence of a primary care physician. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 p.m., and is closed on weekends and holidays. Among their services, the GCHC medical staff can perform electrocardiogram (EKG) tests, apply sutures, and, if necessary, arrange ambulance transport to a major medical facility. There is no x-ray facility on site; referrals are made to Greene County General for emergency x-rays. With a focus on rural health, the GCHC accepts Medicare, Medicaid and all major insurance programs. The guiding philosophy is on proactive wellness; Dr. Beams and his staff take a holistic approach to their patients and provide nutritional and lifestyle counseling as well as information and referral to supportive services within Greene County.
The Emergency Medical Service system in Greene County is operated by the county; it provides basic and paramedic care. One ambulance is located in each of four satellite sites throughout Greene County and each ambulance has 24 hour coverage, seven days per week. In addition to the county-operated system, the Linton fire department provides emergency medical services and the CARE Ambulance Service station in Jasonville provides hired transportation (i.e. transporting a person from an assisted living facility to a medical appointment) and backup support to the county ambulance service.

Greene County’s senior citizens aren’t retired – they’re “re-wired”. Most of them are busy serving their community in social and service clubs, mission-directed community organizations and as board members of myriad organizations. They actively help shape the direction of the county for future generations. For those seniors who, due to infirmity or disability, find themselves in need of assistive health care in order to participate more fully in community life, Greene County offers comprehensive elder care services.
GENERATIONSGenerations, affiliated with Vincennes University, is a not-for-profit agency which serves older adults and disabled individuals of all ages, in the counties of Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike, without regard to race, national origin, sex, age, religion, disability, and/or sexual orientation by providing resources that foster personal independence while assuring individual dignity and an enhanced quality of life. Generations' mission is to offer people choices as they age to live a better life with dignity. As one of 16 Area Agencies on Aging in Indiana, Generations has the resources to help the aging, persons of all ages with physical disabilities, and their caregivers. The administrative arm is Vincennes University. Generations is a member of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A) and Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging (IAAAA) and a member of the board of directors for the National Enterprise Alliance. Generations is part of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and the Indiana Division of Aging. They serve more than 3,300 clients in the Indiana counties of Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Knox, Martin and Pike. Generations complies with Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. In Greene County, Generations provides the following services:

Greene County residents are also able to subscribe to Generations’ free magazine, designed to address the needs of those age 55 and older. Contracted providers help the Generations’ staff to offer transportation, adult day services, employment services for persons 55 and older and legal assistance for older residents and qualifying low-income individuals. Glenburn Home is a full service retirement Community and Rehab Center located in Linton. Glenburn offers Independent Living in their duplex apartments while the Health Center offers skilled and intermediate care as well as an Alzheimer's Special Care Unit. The Rehab Center offers Post Acute Inpatient services as well as Outpatient Services.

Lyons Health & Living Center is an 82-bed facility offering inpatient and outpatient services including physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as 4 rehabilitation-to-home Medicare suites for patients needing rehabilitative therapy after accident or illness before returning home. As well as encouraging active involvement by patient’s families, Lyons Health & Living Center maintains a family atmosphere with buffet dining and a variety of activities for residents including arts & crafts, music, and outdoor walks. The facility holds family cookouts or dinners about five times per year and Ladies Civitan sponsors a monthly birthday for residents. Shakamak Good Samaritan Home is in a rural setting in Jasonville, IN. The center is three miles from scenic Shakamak State Park, where residents can enjoy abundant wildlife, fishing and picnicking. The view from the patio is of fruit trees, flowering dogwood trees and rolling fields. Residents spend time in the gazebo area throughout the day, along with the statue of "Our Shepherd" sculpted in Italy. Along with the skilled-nursing center, there are 24 senior living apartments next door with gardens and patios for each apartment dweller. Linton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a comprehensive care center offering both short term rehabilitation and long term care located in central Linton. The center offers transitions to multi-levels of care, physical, occupational and speech therapies, specialized wound care, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, post transplant care, and hospice care with pain management. The staff is focused on building collaborative relationships with patients and specialty service caregivers focused on bringing the healing process to residents, completely and compassionately.
